How it works!

360 Cameras like the Insta 360 are digital cameras that typically have multiple lenses that capture images in all directions with minor overlay. Once taken the images will looks like:

Most 360 cameras will include software that will stitch these images together to form an image that appears like this:

The image above is the equirectangular projection that presents as a warped image that simply displays a 360 degree view on a flat surface.

Since what we view on our screens is a 2D image unable to present a full 360 degrees like for example virtual reality headsets, these images once stitched need to be hosted by software that uses geometric computing to display different angles in a normal looking view. All images produced by 360 cameras must include the Meta data that enables this software to present a POV presentation.
